How to track your actions with IBM Verse

Ever wanted a smarter inbox? An inbox that acted as if it was your mother – taking care of all your nitty gritty stuff? Well, your mother does not work at your office, so why not settle for a smart personal assistant. An assistant that keep track of anything for you without any complaint on the salary or the working hours.

I would settle for IBM Verse if I were You. Here is one of the reasons why:

Ovum: IBM Connections is a leader in Enterprise Social Networking

Ovum has published the “Ovum Decision Matrix: Selecting an Enterprise Social Networking Product, 2016–17” and has named IBM Connections as one of two leading products.

“Businesses and institutions depend on the cooperation of employees and teams to function and compete; thus, organizational life is inherently social,” the report notes. With the proliferation of data and increasing workplace complexity making it more difficult to find the right information and expertise we need to get our work done, effective collaboration is more important than ever. Connecting employees in a unified way, in one integrated platform, allows them to share ideas and spark new ones, organize and function as agile teams, build communities, and scale these functions to drive the business forward.

Ovum evaluated solutions based on seven assessment categories consisting of 209 data points: social features, collaboration features, end-user experience features, content management features, deployment features, administration features, and developer features. The report notes that the “Leader” designation is “reserved for enterprise social networking products that score significantly above the combined group average” in the above categories. In naming IBM Connections one of the two leading ESN products, Ovum cited its superior content management functionality.

Ovum also discussed IBM infusion of cognitive capabilities in creating a “smarter workspace” that acts as a strategic advisor to the organization, giving companies a competitive advantage through the ability to navigate today’s increasingly complex business environment.

What’s ‘appening with Notes Domino?

Do you wonder what is happening with good old IBM Lotus Notes and Domino? Is it dead? Is it alive and kicking? What’s ‘appening?

Well, there is a (may be not so) simple answer to that:

  • Elementary, Dr. Watson!

Domino and Notes are still there, but maybe not so visible as it used to. And there is a reason for that: The world is changing, the technology is changing, the way we work is changing. And therefore the tools we use at work has to change too!

IBM came up with some new stuff quite a while ago and a big part of that is IBM Connections Cloud and IBM Verse. These are the new platform for collaborative work and processes. And believe it or not – it’s been a great success all over the world. According to analysts IBM Connections has been the market leader on social collaboration for enterprise for about 7 years in a row.

I left IBM last summer to start my own consulting business. But I had already stopped using IBM Notes six months before that. I had already been using IBM Connections as an internal collaboration platform and started using IBM Verse for email as it was integrated with Connections.

Even if I had been working as a Lotus Notes Evangelist for 16 years I saw the light when I fired up my IBM Verse for the first time. I fell in love with the new way to work and dumped my old lover – the Lotus Notes Client.

IBM followed suit themselves and you really should walk the corridors to find an IBM’er who still uses good old Lotus Notes. They all use IBM Verse and IBM Connections now – wherever they are – using PC’s, Mac’s, Android devices or Apple devices. And IBM used only 7 months to move all their 450.000 employees to the new platform.

I left IBM, but I did not leave IBM Connections and IBM Verse. This is the platform I run my small business on and I have nothing installed locally. I do not care about upgrades, virus, spam or backup. It is all in the cloud – the very, very secure cloud that IBM provides.

So, Notes and Domino are dead, at last?

You could not be more wrong. The products and the technology are still there, but they are under the hood. The engine, the power, the functionalities and all the other good old stuff you loved about the platform are still there – and still developed. But they are invisible to the end user – just like the engine in your car. It is still there under the hood but you are doing what you should do when you are behind the wheel; keeping your eies on the road ahead, focused on reaching your business targets.

But, if you really are that technically interested, and would like to drive by them map and not let the GPS take you where you planned to go, here is the roadmap:

Changes ahead…

The time has come to change! There are big changes going on around the world – not only within technology, but also in politics and change of human values.

The time has come to change this blog. Change the themes on what I write about. Broaden the scope from collaboration and collaborative technology – to collaboration, human values and how we treat each other in our daily lives. How we behave, how we think, how we share or keep our values to ourselves.

Personally I am into a big transition. I am into my life’s slow-down period, the third and last chapter of my life. 66 years old, maybe going on to 83 – 85 I I’m lucky…

I quit my job last year, my pension pays my bills, I started my own small company selling processing time in my own brain. Some would say it’s quite cloudy up there.

Maybe, it surely is closer to Heaven!

My transition to my next life has already started. I have four grown up kids, I have five grand children and the fifth is on her way, still “baking in the oven”.

There is also a spiritual side of this as God have always been with me since my childhood days, even though not very active through my grown up life, always there in the deepest parts of my soul, but kind of hidden from my daily practical life.

You need to know this story to understand what is going on with me:

Two of my oldest grand children were not baptised, which I accepted, but sorrowed. When one of them, a baby girl, had her naming day, in an unnoticed moment I drew a small cross with my finger on her forehead and asked God to Bless her. I never told anyone I did it. It was my secret until earlier this year.

15 years later, this spring, this little baby girl, now a beautiful young lady, called to ask me to join her baptism and confirmation! She had decided in her heart to go with God.

Every time I think of this I get tears in my eyes. To me this is a message from God showing me that he heard my prayer and blessing 15 years ago. To me this was a sign that God wanted to tell me that he was closer to me than I understood myself.

And then he started to work inside my heart. Knocking and rebuilding my feelings, thinking and beliefs. Turning the whole interior upside down. Refurnishing my inside totally. And the voice kept saying: – If she can, you can. If she can, you can. If she can, you can.

So, now here I am. Well into the process of converting to become a catholic, leaving the Lutheran church which almost every Norwegian are born into. And from the first day I went into my new catholic church I got a very strong feeling inside of me. – At home, at last. At Home.

So, dear readers. There will be a change on this blog. I will still write about technology, collaboration og social business. But I will also write about other things that are on my mind and in my feelings. Slowly this blog will change to a broader spectre of things.

It will be a new journey both for me and my readers. I do not know where it will be leading me and maybe my readers.

What I do know is that this blog from now on will be all about life! My life and your life!

If you want to participate in this walk along the road to here, there and everywhere, please join me and let’s talk while we walk.

If you don’t want to follow me into this land of nowhere and everywhere, then let’s say good bye and God Bless. Good luck to you and good luck to me…

Next time: Let’s talk about Donald Trump…
